Last-Minute RV Repairs Nobody Wants to Deal With

We are freezing in Florida and it is snowing right now while we wait to fly out to Arizona for our son wedding tomorrow. Florida is not supposed to be cold but here we are in the USA Park airport lot eating Panera soup in the van. The van is named Mr Lemon and I am sick of it sometimes because things just break out of nowhere. We parked in the field so our solar panels can keep the batteries topped off while we are gone and the shuttle is going to pick us up soon. I had to tape the window shut and put a towel inside the door so the glass does not fall down and shatter. We are just going to sleep here tonight.

I literally had to take the whole passenger door apart earlier today in the freezing wind. My bag of bolts is full of leftover parts and I really hope I remember how to put it all back together next week when we return. We went to Napa Auto Parts and the guys were super helpful but they did not have the window regulator with the motor. I had to order a new part online for sixty bucks and it will ship to Florida while we are away at the wedding. All she did was roll down the window to hand me something and it broke with a loud snap. The cable just came off the spool inside the mechanism and the window would not go up. She had to hold the glass in place while I took the hidden screws out and my fingers were hurting from the cold.

Today was supposed to be simple and we just wanted to sit on the beach and relax before our flight. We needed to get the van ready and lock it down for the airport. We got gas first and it was pretty expensive at fifty six bucks for nineteen gallons. Then we got propane for twenty bucks from a guy who just ran right out to help us and that was the easiest part of the whole day. We also went to a Love travel stop to dump the cassette and the gray tank for ten bucks. I had to give the cashier my driver license just to get the key to the poop station. You really cannot leave the van alone from a security perspective when the window is broken so we had to fix it enough to park it.

We will fly out tomorrow at six in the morning from Jacksonville. Then we come back next week and I have to fix the window for real and hopefully we do not have any extra parts left over. We definitely did not expect this broken window today but we got gas and propane and we are ready for the wedding.
